Legal Technology

Legal Technology in India

AI in legal practice, legal-tech tools, attorney-client privilege and AI, and the intersection of technology and the Indian legal profession.

Legal technology is reshaping how Indian lawyers research, draft, manage matters, and counsel clients, but the regulatory and ethical perimeter around legal-tech adoption is still being worked out.

The articles in this section cover the issues that practitioners and in-house teams confront when deploying AI and other legal-tech tools: when use of an AI tool implicates attorney-client privilege, what the Bar Council and emerging professional-conduct guidance say about generative-AI tools, how data protection law and confidentiality obligations interact with AI vendors, and where Indian doctrine on legal advice has and has not extended to AI-assisted output.

The treatment is practitioner-facing: it does not assume that AI tools are inherently safe or inherently dangerous, but works through the doctrinal questions one decision at a time.
